My Life Until Now...

So, I figure I'll start out by giving everyone a little glimpse of the person behind the blog :)
To start from the beginning, I was born, raised, attended undergrad, and currently still live in northern Ohio. I am an adventurous person at heart and love trying new things. That lead me to having a diverse background in extracurricular and community activities all though out my school years, including college. I have played many types of sports ranging from basketball and volleyball to soccer and softball. After starting high school, I went in a different direction and joined clubs and improved my leadership skills. I became a part of the student council and a member of drama club (as well as various other clubs) and even earned my spot in academic national honor societies. It was also during my high school years when expanded my horizons by traveling abroad as a student ambassador to China and Australia and ended up finding my passion for traveling. Through those experiences, I later gained the confidence to try things outside my comfort zone (such as skydiving and zip lining) and learned the importance of volunteering in my community. It was through my decision to volunteer at my local animal shelter (and later my first job at a veterinary clinic) that I began to see the real world of the field of veterinary medicine. That brings me to the main reason for starting this blog.
Like many veterinary/pre-veterinary students, I have known that I wanted to be a veterinarian since I was very little, and have always been fascinated with animals, science, and medicine. These interests led me to pursue a bachelors of science degree in biology, and finally apply for vet school! After many applications, interviews, rejections, a couple of wait lists, and a lot of traveling (experiences which I am sure I will share in future blog posts), my lifetime of hard work finally paid off. In May, I received the call I had been waiting for when was informed that I had been accepted to St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine for the January 2014 starting term! I couldn't be happier to be attending SGU vet school in January!
I hope that by writing this blog, I will be able to share my experiences with others as well as help other pre-vets out there on the long and tricky path to veterinary medicine. I also hope to use this blog as a way to keep family and friends back home up to date with what is going on during my vet school life and share the experience with them. As I await my January start date, I hope share some of my application experiences with those waiting to apply or applying now (or even just those curious about the application process). Please feel free to leave some comments or ask questions, and I'll answer the best that I can.
